Please include instructions for how to apply.: The Mary and John Gray Library at Lamar University seeks an innovative and creative individual to join our team as University Archivist. Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the University Archivist provides leadership for the ongoing development, operation, and promotion of the University Archives and Special Collections and serves as the University Records Manager. The Archivist will also participate in the creation of a new Archives and Special Collections Center. The Archivist will work closely with the Dean of the Library in seeking external funding for the growth and development of the unit and its collections, and will actively seek opportunities for regional, statewide, and national partnerships. The Archivist will supervise a department consisting of one full-time librarian and three full-time staff members. This is a tenure-track faculty position. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.

• Serve as University Records Manager, supported by a certified Records Management Assistant.
• Oversee the creation of finding aids for the archival and special collections using current best practices.
• Develop a long term vision for the unit that fits the strategic direction of the university and library.
• Develop and disseminate appropriate policies and procedures, including a collection development policy.
• Develop and maintain the unit’s record of provenance and usage rights.
• Oversee outreach efforts to the university community to increase usage of collections in support of learning and research.
• Manage the unit’s reference assistance service.
• Work with the Dean to develop sources of external funding, including donations and grants.
• Continue to develop Special Collections by soliciting donations of materials and through selective acquisitions.
• Maintain and update professional knowledge and skills on a continuing basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of current trends and best practices in the archival, special collections, and records management fields.
• Supervisory experience.
• Knowledge and experience in the use of archival and metadata standards, such as EAD, Dublin Core, and MODS.
• A demonstrated desire and record of developing professional skills and knowledge.
• Familiarity and experience with digital tools, such as ArchiveSpace, institutional repositories (IR), Photoshop, and a high level of familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with and serve a diverse community of faculty, students, researchers, and members of the community.
• A record of accomplishment in the area of scholarship and/or professional service activities suitable for appointment as a tenured/tenure track faculty member.

• A Master’s degree in Library or information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program is required.
• Preferred: Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA).
• Preferred: A second graduate degree in History or other appropriate discipline.

• Five years of full-time experience in a university archives or Special Collections department, with a record of increasing responsibility, is required.
• Supervisory experience.
