The Community-Driven Archives department is reimagining and transforming 21st century academic libraries and archives by centering the lives and voices of historically marginalized communities and by implementing innovative solutions that address inequities and erasure. The award-winning initiative advances ASU’s research and public service mission by creating a collaborative culture that models reparative action and broadens access to and preservation of knowledge.

The Community Access Archivist arranges and describes archival materials in accordance with archival best practices and standards; collaborates with community partners; helps to prepare materials for reformatting, digitization, preservation, and access; and employs a strategic and team-based approach to outreach and engagement in order to enable and encourage access to archival materials within ASU Library’s unique and diverse collections. This position is based in the Community-Driven Archives (CDA) team.

The Community Access Archivist collaborates with personnel in the areas of digital preservation, metadata, conservation, reformatting services, and high-density storage to enable long-term access to ASU archival collections. The Archivist’s core duties include prioritizing collections for processing, appraising collections, developing processing plans, identifying preservation and conservation needs, rehousing and arranging materials, authors metadata and finding aids in Spanish and English, and performing subject analysis.
