Position
Reporting to the Director of Collections and Exhibits, the Processing Archivist will work closely with the Director and Archivist to arrange and describe archival collections, both physical and digital, focused on the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in World War II. The Processing Archivist will create finding aids following standard professional practices, using both the “More Product, Less Process” (MPLP) and flexible-level approaches to maximize collection accessibility while remaining flexible to institutional needs. Job responsibilities also include preparing material for digitization, such as separating items, assigning identifiers, creating metadata, and providing reference services to researchers and staff. Additionally, the Processing Archivist may contribute to outreach efforts, including social media, programs, and exhibitions.

Responsibilities
• Arranges and describes archival material in all formats in accordance with current library and archival standards.
• Produces electronic finding aids using ArchivesSpace and catalog records using Re:Discovery.
• Prepares material for digitization, including separating materials, assigning identifiers, creating metadata, and other related tasks.
• Performs reference services when needed.
• Contributes to outreach efforts, including providing material for social media posts, programs, and exhibitions.
• Assists the archivist with creating workflows, staying abreast of archival trends, and other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Archival Studies OR equivalent education and experience.
• One to two years of experience arranging and describing archival collections in many formats (manuscript, audio-visual, born-digital, etc.).
• Knowledge of current national archival and descriptive standards and best practices, including working knowledge of MARC, EAD, DACS, and other archival descriptive standards.
• Working knowledge of the Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Name Authority, and other authorities.
• Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as both a team member and independently.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in preparing documents for digitization by a third party, including separating materials, assigning identifiers, and creating metadata.
• Experience providing reference services.
• Knowledge of or experience using ArchivesSpace, Re:Discovery, or a similar archival management system.
• Familiarity with significant people, places, and events associated with the Asiatic-Pacific Theater in World War II.
• Familiarity with library cataloging is a plus but not required.

Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time, salaried position in the range of $42,000 – $47,000 with health insurance, sick leave, paid vacation, and holidays. A 403-B retirement savings account is offered.
