Duties and Responsibilities
The Dance Heritage Coalition Video Preservation Hub Manager in Washington, D.C. plays a major role in the completion of a Mellon grant for the digitization of 900 hours of video for inclusion in the Dance Heritage Coalition “Secure Media Network,” to be concluded in early 2015.  In addition, the Hub Manager will take on a number of responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of the video digitization station and the future development of the Dance Heritage Coalition Secure Media Network for archival digital assets, potentially continuing beyond the end of the grant.

Responsibilities include:

– capture dance-related video, generate derivatives and format material for long-term preservation
– create PBCore records for inclusion in the DHC Secure Media Network
– act as primary contact for DC-area dance companies in forming partnerships with Dance Heritage Coalition for long-term preservation of video material; assist in identifying artists and other prospects who hold legacy tapes worthy of preservation
– operate and maintain the Hub’s digitization equipment, such as VHS and DV tape decks
– provide input and assist with further development of policies and procedures around management of DHC Secure Media Network assets
– other project-based responsibilities as required by Dance Heritage Coalition

Requirements
Hub Manager should have experience working with legacy audiovisual formats, performing digitization of analog audiovisual materials, and managing digital assets.  Experience using command line operations for digital preservation functions preferred. Should be equally comfortable working independently and in collaboration with others.  Good time management skills and ability to multitask are essential.  Hub Manager should be able to lift 30 pounds unassisted and be willing and able to move and lift boxes and equipment throughout the workday.  Ideally, Hub Manager will be knowledgeable about or interested in dance and/or performance documentation.
