Other related qualifications: Professional training in archives management and advanced knowledge and understanding of archival theory, principles, ethics, methods, techniques, automated information systems and their applications to a variety of archival and library situations. Professional knowledge of policies, standards, guidelines and management principles established by NPS and the archival and museum profession to govern the management and development of archival collections.
Understanding of disciplines represented in the park collections, such as history, archaeology, cultural anthropology, historic and cultural landscape, biology, geology, legislation and administration. Knowledge of NPS and non-NPS archival collections in related subject matter in order to achieve complete coverage of significant archival sources when providing reference and research advice in response to requests. Knowledge of computerized cataloging and database management standards, issues and techniques, specifically, knowledge of the Interior Collection Management System (ICMS), Microsoft Access, Excel and Word. Knowledge of Records Management, management of digital records, digital media, etc. Extensive knowledge of preservation standards, procedures and techniques for archival and museum materials. Ability to manage a diverse program in a broad geographic area. In-depth knowledge of program management and administration of budget, contracts and personnel. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of historical research techniques.
Salary: $56,100
Nature of Work:
The archivist will work on an archives backlog cataloging initiative for the National Park Service to process and catalogue the bulk of the existing backlog in the Southeast Region. The project will entail coordinating the process of park-based archives into the NPS cataloguing databases.

Physical requirements/working conditions:
Candidate is required to have the ability to travel to parks, sometimes for extended time periods and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
