Clinton Public Library (Clinton, Iowa) invites applications for an intern to process the Johnson-Lieferman Photograph Collection during the summer of 2015. The 200-hour internship will take place at the Lyons Special Collections branch of the Clinton Public Library between June 1 and August 28, with work performed on weekdays during regular business hours. This is a paid internship ($10.00/hour) with no benefits.

Applicants who have recently completed or are currently enrolled in a graduate program in Library and Information Studies, Archival Studies, Museum Studies, Public History, Digital Humanities, or a comparable related discipline will be given first consideration. Current students wishing to receive course credit through their educational program must indicate so in their application cover letter.

The Johnson-Lieferman Photograph Collection consists of approximately 150 linear feet of negatives, prints, invoices, indexes, account books, and other mixed archival materials. The Johnson-Lieferman Collection was acquired from an area commercial photography studio and contains both physical and digital content dating from 1941-2010. The selected intern will have a key role in developing the collection as an enduring institutional and community resource.

The intern will help devise a workable processing, preservation, and delivery plan for the collection and will perform the following tasks:

•Appraise, describe, and arrange photographs and mixed archival materials
•Create collection- and series-level metadata for physical and digital content
•Evaluate open-source and proprietary applications for online presentation
•Devise a strategy to promote public awareness and use of the collection

Experience working in a library, archives, museum, or digital image lab setting is desired. Knowledge of photography history, digital content management, and archival preservation standards is strongly desired. Experience with the Microsoft Office suite and other modern office systems (phone, email, fax, social media, etc.) is required.
