Clemson University Libraries seeks an Archivist III to provide direction for the following Special Collections Library service areas: accessioning, processing and preserving materials, administrative support, personnel activities, facilities issues, and reading room management.
Archivist III responsibilities include:
· Archival Management: Accessions and processes special collection materials including books, manuscripts, and university archives according to professional and institutional standards. Responds to public requests for information and information system use. E/50%
· Administrative Support: Plans, develops and implements procedures that provide administrative support for the unit. Orders and distributes office supplies and materials. Manages unit’s records according to the university records management policies. Assures compliance with document retention procedures. Manages statistics and assessment activities. Manages Reading Room activities: creates desk schedule, manages patron needs, and works at service desk during assigned periods. E/15%
· Personnel Support: Manages personnel for the unit. Hires and supervises student employees. Manages student time and Kronos timecards, ensuring that unit needs for students are met. Serves as resource and liaison for personnel issues. E/15%
· Facilities Management: Manages facilities issues. Manages stacks space, arrangement of materials on shelves, inventory of holdings. Manages work room and reading room space. Monitors temperature and humidity, lighting, equipment, furniture, and reports problems to Clemson University Facilities. Coordinates removal of items to surplus. Manages equipment functionality. · Compliance, Safety, and Training: Complies with University, State, and Federal requirements. Maintains a safe and secure environment. Participates in staff development programs. E/10%
Required Qualifications:
Minimum: A bachelor’s degree and related professional experience or directly related course work.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree and related professional experience in archival collections and preservation of historical documents; or directly related course work in history, library science, archival studies, or preservation.
Excellent communication (written, oral, and multimedia) skills, organizational skills, and technological competence in Microsoft Office suite are necessary. Position necessitates dealing with Clemson employees and the public in a professional manner. Requires flexibility, positive attitude, and willingness to do library work with administrative responsibilities. Minimum supervision given. Ability to plan, execute, and manage responsibilities with limited direction from supervisor. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in clerical procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks. Job related initiative expected.
Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Must be able to work some evening and weekend hours.
Salary: $27,000-$30,000
Work Schedule: Standard hours of 37.5 hours per week. This position may be on call for evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Flexibility in schedule is desirable.
