Required Education Master’s Degree

Preferred Education Master’s Degree
Field of Study ALA accredited MLS degree with advanced course work in archival theory and methodology OR a Master’s degree in archival administration OR a Master’s degree in history OR another humanities field with an emphasis on archival administration.
Preferred: Archival certification.
Experience and Other Skills Required
– Minimum six months demonstrated experience with standard archival processing, finding aid preparation and reference service as related to archival material.
– Minimum of six months experience with providing research and reference services, and outreach with different user groups.
– Ability to evaluate materials as to historical/research value.
– Knowledge of current archival descriptive practices including SMARC and electronic access tools including HTML, Encoded Archival Description (EAD) and XML.
– Organizational abilities to manage diverse projects.
– Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Other Skills Preferred
– One full year of full-time professional archives experience.
– Experience with EAD encoding and creating and maintaining web pages and digital projects.
– Knowledge and experience with scanning equipment.
– Instruction/presentation experience in an academic setting.
– Knowledge of trends in digital preservation management and preservation reformatting.
– Knowledge of CONTENTdm or other digital repository platforms.
Description of Job Duties
– Manages the identification, appraisal, acquisition, description, storage, access, and preservation of the manuscript collections, regardless of format.
– Collaborates with the Digital Archivist and other Libraries staff in planning, creating, and managing digitized and born-digital material.
– Provides reference assistance in support of the academic and research uses of the collection, assisting patrons find materials relevant to their research.
– Initiates outreach and instruction to teach library users how to effectively and efficiently locate information, use appropriate research methodologies, and specific resources and discovery tools.
– Engages in outreach activities, products, and events that encourage faculty, staff, and the researchers to use the manuscript collections and services. Prepare and update print and on-line reference tools.
– Coordinate and supervise special projects.
– Supervises interns and volunteers, providing training and oversight for the fulfillment of patron duplication requests, processing, and scanning.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.
