POSITION SUMMARY
The Collections Development Specialist (CDS) is responsible for organizing, preserving and providing access to the Museum’s archival and library collections. The CDS ensures institutional adherence to accepted best practices in museums, archives, and libraries; assists the Senior Director of Education in researching, crafting, and implementing special projects, museum programs, and rotating special exhibitions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and implement archives management policies and activities based on best practices
• Provide for the arrangement, cataloging and preservation of the Museum’s historic artifact, document, photograph, and library collections
• Provide for the arrangement, cataloging and preservation of the Museum’s institutional archive
• Develop access tools for library and artifact collections, including guides and finding aids
• Support Museum staff and external researchers’ access to collections
• Conduct necessary preventative conservation and re-housing of archival materials
• Actively pursue new artifact acquisitions to support the Museum’s mission
• Process incoming and backlogged materials by accessioning them using the museum’s collection management software (PastPerfect)
• Oversee and train interns and volunteers
• Participate in Museum programs and activities—some on evenings and weekends

EDUCATION:
• Required: Master’s Degree in Library Science or Museum Studies
• Preferred: Archivist certification

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• Ability to create and grow an archive program
• Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles and practices; preservation methods and theory
• Demonstrated knowledge of digital imaging and metadata standards
• Ability to organize resources and establish priorities
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Experience in museum archives or other public history setting
• Preferred: experience with archives management software or museum collection management software
• Preferred: general knowledge of the Holocaust

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. and carry items while walking and climbing stairs
• Ability to climb a ladder to access collections
