Duties of the intern will include digitizing images, helping to design and refine a digital collections program, metadata creation, and assisting with reference requests related to the Center for Railroad Photography and Art’s collections on deposit at Lake Forest College. There may also be opportunities to assist with the Center’s social media presence.

The intern will report to the Archivist at Lake Forest College and also work closely with the Executive Director of CRPA.

Interns must be enrolled in a graduate program in library science, history or a closely related field. Desired qualifications include coursework in digital collections, good computer skills, ability to pay close attention to detail, and reliability.

The intern must work Monday-Friday between the hours of 9-6 during the Fall semester. The internship will be for at least ten hours a week.

The Center for Railroad Photography & Art (www.railphoto-art.org) is a non-for-profit arts and education organization whose mission is to preserve and present significant images of railroading. Its exhibitions, publications, and symposiums explore the intersections of railroad art and culture with American history and life. The Center also maintains a growing collection of railroad imagery, both at its office in Madison, Wisconsin, and at the Donnelley and Lee Library of Lake Forest College.

A highly selective liberal arts college located on Chicago’s North Shore, Lake Forest College enrolls approximately 1600 undergraduate students representing 47 different states and 78 foreign countries. Lake Forest College Archives and Special Collections maintain the historical records of the College as well as collections relating to the City of Lake Forest; architecture, transportation, and publishing in the Chicago region; and the Effective Schools Process.

Lake Forest College is easily reached by the Metra commuter rail Union Pacific line from Chicago and points north.
