SENIOR ARCHIVAL SPECIALIST – SPECIAL COLLECTIONS

Duties: Experienced archivist to work with collections (paper and electronic). Responsible for appraisal and processing of archival collections. Proficiency in full archival processing as well as More Product, Less Process. Experience writing finding guides. Knowledge of EAD, DACs and other metadata standards. Familiarity with digital formats and issues related to born-digital content. May train, supervise or review archival work by other staff. Perform basic preservation work. Provide reference service to patrons. Curate selected exhibits. Serve on digital collections team. Work with Marketing Department on social media projects. Strong organizational skills. Dedicated commitment to public service. Ability to work creatively, collegially and effectively as part of a team and independently. Interpret library policy, procedures and regulations; help develop special collections policies, procedures and regulations. Demonstrated proficiency with library / archival technology applications. Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and other software. Responsible for or supervise preparation of monthly and annual reports and other documents. Help manage budgets. Maintain professional development through participation at local, state or national level. Perform related duties as required.
LOCATION: Harold Washington Library Center- Special Collections Division 400 S. State Street
DAYS OFF: Two days off per week
SHIFT: Will be required to work some Evenings ,Saturdays & Sundays
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week to be scheduled during normal unit hours
Mon-Thurs 9-9, Fri & Sat 9-5, Sun 1- 5

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Archival Studies, OR a Master’s degree from an accredited American Library Association (ALA) Library Science program with nine credit hours in archival science or archival administration studies, OR a Master’s degree in History or a directly related field with nine credit hours in archival science or archival administration studies. One year of work experience related to the responsibilities of the position is also required.

NOTE: Physical day to day responsibilities for this title may include the ability to lift and carry library material weighing between 25 and 35 pounds. Ability to stand for extended or continuous periods of time. Ability to bend, stretch, twist or reach out with one’s body arms or legs. Ability to climb staircases, ladders and or step stools.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:
(a) Knowledge of archival processing in an academic or public library and/or museum setting
(b) Experience working in the field of Special Collections
(c) Knowledge of EAD, DACS and/or other metadata standards
