DESCRIPTION
In 2011, Carnegie Museum of Art received a multi-year grant from the A.W. Mellon Foundation to preserve and provide access to its time-based media collection, which is comprised of over 1,000 film, video, audio, and computer-based art works; and installations that incorporate time-based media. The project, now in its second phase, is focused on preserving the collection, migrating and digitizing key holdings, and processing and digitizing a large body of related materials from the Department of Film and Video archive.
The Archival Intern will provide crucial support to this project. S/he will work with the Archival Assistant to arrange and describe the Department of Film and Video archive; rehouse materials in archival, acid-free containers; scan documents and photographs; create metadata according to professional standards; transcribe audio recordings; and complete other project related tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge, skills, and abilities: The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and good time-management skills. S/he must be able to work independently without constant direct supervision. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and web-based research are required.
Education and Experience: The candidate should be a mature undergraduate, a recent graduate, or graduate student with demonstrated experience working in an archive, library or similar professional setting. Current or recent students of library sciences, archival studies, film history, museum studies, or art history are preferred.
SCHEDULE
1 to 2 days a week, Monday through Friday; a minimum commitment of 3 months is required.
