The Physician Assistant History Society is extending it’s search for an intern to complete this project.

The transcription project will require the intern to transcribe both audio and video Oral Histories from the past fifteen years.  The intern will be responsible for transcribing the narrative of the interviews, modifying catalog records, and posting the digitized transcripts on the Society’s website.

If time is available during the internship, the second project will require the intern to transcribe the Table of Contents for archived historical journals, including:  Advance for Physician Assistant, AAPA News, Clinical Adviser, JAAPA, JPAE, and Physician Assistant.  The intern will be responsible for editing scanned copies of the journal covers using photo editing software.  The final task of the project requires the intern to input the metadata for the journal covers and Table of Contents into Past Perfect, and then post the digitized documents on the Society’s website.
Once trained, the intern will work independently on this project.  S/he will be expected to execute the project through completion during the 8–10 week summer internship.  This project requires attention to detail in transcribing the Oral Histories, composing and proofing the Table of Contents and editing the scanned journal covers.

Dates: The internship is an eight week program with some flexibility during the fall semester, beginning in early October and ending at the end of November or early December.

Location: The intern will be required to work 2-3 days, in the Society’s office located in Johns Creek, Georgia.

Internship Goals:  The fall internship program with the PA History Society will provide the opportunity to a college student interested in Library and Information Science to gain hands-on experience in a small archives office that is responsible for preserving the history of the physician assistant profession.
•       Gain experience with the transcription of Oral Histories
•       Participate in the preservation of first accounts of the founding a medical profession
•       Obtain experience formatting and helping to disseminate historic narratives
•       Collaboration on a project providing additional access to archived periodicals through the creation of an index

Pay:  The intern will receive a stipend of $15 an hour, up to $3,000.

Minimum Qualifications:
Baccalaureate or Master’s student with a basic understanding and interest in Library & Information Science and Archival Science
Ability to use Microsoft Office products and basic photo editing software
Proficient and accurate typing
