Job Description : The American Jewish Archives, a division of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, seeks a positive, service-oriented individual for the position of part-time Processing Archivist. Primary duties will involve the arrangement and description of archival collections, but will also entail a variety of other duties such as accessioning of newly arrived collections, finding aid creation, data entry, collection inventory and stack maintenance, re-boxing and re-shelving of materials, as well as the digitization of archival materials. In addition, this individual may be asked to assist in reference duties, pull and re-file archival materials, and assist AJA patrons in the course of their research. Knowledge of digital archives and archival management software is a plus.
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, pay close attention to detail, have ability to work in a team setting as well as independently, be comfortable in the care and handling of library and archival material, and be willing to work with the AJA’s archival and administrative staff
Qualifications:
Master’s degree, with emphasis in archival studies, as well as experience working in an archive. Experience in arranging and describing archival collections required. Knowledge of MARC cataloging and metadata standards preferred. The applicant must be able to handle archival boxes weighing up to 30 pounds and push archival carts. Basic knowledge of American history needed, with knowledge of American Jewish history preferred.
