Position Summary: The PA History Society seeks a tech savvy Archivist to maintain and update our organizations’ archival, library and museum collections. This position is responsible for executing the day-to-day tasks of selecting, preserving, and making available the documentary heritage of the physicians assistant profession.
Responsibilities include:
• Work with Society staff to maintain and update archival policies.
• Appraise incoming donations, identifying manuscripts, objects, and records of historical value that fit the Society’s Collection Development Policy.
• Process and Preserve incoming materials, creating accession records and assuring proper transfer of ownership through appropriate forms, Deed of Gift, etc.
• Create and maintain catalog records according to Archival Best Practices.
• Use controlled vocabularies and Archival Standards (DACS) to provide multiple access points across each catalog record.
• Analyze local documentation of target people, subjects, events, and themes relating to the Physician Assistant Profession, determining collection strengths and establishing strategies for improving in weakly documented areas.
• Identify, report, and implements strategies for improving access to collections, community outreach, and general Society marketing.
• Work with PAHx Historian, subject experts, and members of PA community to identify individuals, events, and topics associated with each collection.
• Field routine communications related to archival collections and provide reference service to Staff, PA community, and general Public.
• Promote use of the Archives to Physician Assistants, students, PA Programs, PA organizations and the general public through outreach.
• Provides reports on progress to PAHx Director and Board of Directors.
• Provides guidance on copyright, preservation, and Best Practices to staff.
• Digitizes, edits, and makes available audiovisual materials of historic value.
• Identifies potential donors/contributors to Society collections.
• Works in support capacity on major exhibits, conference activities, projects, and website.
• Plans/implements timely and interesting exhibits both on and off the Web.
• Supervises Interns.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science.
• A minimum of one year’s experience working in an archival setting.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under minimal supervision, handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Acrobat)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to occasionally work extended hours as needed, and work weekends twice a year (to attend April & November Board meetings)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Member of SAA a plus. Archival Certification a plus.
• Familiarity with Past Perfect a plus.
• Experience with audio/video editing a plus.
• Experience with image editing software a plus.
• Minor Webpage editing a plus.
• Experience with Social Media a plus.
• Experience with Open Source software a plus.
