2016 Glass Gallery Exhibition Simmons Graduate Internship
The Henry Ford’s Glass Collection is the third largest collection of American Glass, comprising approximately 10,000 objects. The collection spans the 18th through the 20th centuries with significant depth in 19th century pressed and art glass. The recent acquisition of the Bruce and Ann Bachmann collection of Studio Glass updates our holdings into the 21st century. We are currently in the developmental stages of a dedicated glass gallery in Greenfield Village and a gallery of modern glass in the Museum.
Under the direction of the Curator of Decorative Arts and the Senior Concept Designer, the intern will:
– Develop a working knowledge of the history of glass through major publications, online resources and study of the Bachmann collection.
– Serve as a liaison between the designer and the curator, ensuring project stability. The intern will provide input on object selection and refining exhibit themes. This includes proof reading drafts of text and proposed designs.
– Work with the designer to ensure that the themes and selected objects are appropriate with the scope of the design.
– Attend weekly meetings with the designer and the curator to refine exhibit themes, object selections and proposed designs/ installation for the Greenfield Village gallery.
This will require the intern to interact with the Museum’s registration and collections management departments, and utilize the Museum’s collection database.
