Archives Summer Student Assistant

The Shelby White and Leon Levy Archives Center welcomes applicants for a part-time, temporary Student Assistant position for summer, 2016.
The Institute for Advanced Study is dedicated to the pursuit of fundamental knowledge. Since its founding in 1930, the work of the Institute’s Faculty and Members has had permanent impact in both intellectual and practical terms in the broad range of fields in the sciences and humanities. The Shelby White and Leon Levy Archives Center documents the history of the Institute and its administration, faculty, and members.
The Student Assistant will assist Archives Center staff with the processing of physical and digital materials. This may include the use of Archivists Toolkit, CONTENTdm, Past Perfect, and other archival content management programs. No prior experience with this software is expected or required. Responsibilities will include arrangement and description, paging and shelving of archival materials, and some reference assistance.
Preference will be given to a candidate who is currently enrolled in a library science or history graduate program and has either coursework or employment experience in the archival field. Applicants should be able to climb a stepladder, lift a forty-pound box, and tolerate moderate levels of dust.
The Archives Student Assistant would be expected to work between 20 and 35 hours per week for the months of June, July, and August 2016. Dates and hours are negotiable; the successful candidate and the Archivist will agree on a work schedule for the summer. Pay for this position is $12.50 per hour.
