Job Description:
The purpose of this position is to accession, process and catalog all hard copy records at the State Archives. These records must be cataloged in a manner that allows them to be quickly located for public and government use. This position also works with the conservation lab to identify, preserve and shelve fragile, valuable historical documents.
Responsibilities:
Receives, inventories and catalogs microfilm
Catalog all incoming hard copy records and assist in the processing of the same; including the State’s backlog of archival record
Index entries into the cataloging database
Ability to assist both internal and external patrons via telephone or in person
Work with volunteer and others to coordinate effective workflow and project implementation
Assist and aid in coordinating barcoding of the Archives and Record Center collections
Preferred Experience:
Master’s degree from an accredited college in Library Science, Archival Studies, Public History, Informatics or related preferred
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Business Administration, Information/Data Management, Office Administration or related field and three (3) years of relevant work experience
Working knowledge of computers, Excel, Access, Word and data entry
Must be able to understand and follow direction with little to no difficulty
Working knowledge of proper archival indexing, metadata, shelving and cataloging protocols
Must be able to communicate proper processing barcoding procedures to others
Effective written and oral communication
