OPUS Archives and Research Center is seeking a part-time scanning technician to aid in furthering the mission to preserve and extend access to the special collections of eminent scholars in the fields of depth psychology, mythology, and the humanities.

Under direction of the Archivist, the Scanning Technician will work primarily to create digital masters of documents and photographic prints, slides, and negatives. Responsibilities include preparing fragile materials for scanning, calibration and scanning according to in-house and archival standards, image labeling, developing standardized description and recording metadata, and other related projects as needed.

The ideal candidate must be detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create clear and concise notes; possess strong organizational skills; ability to work independently but with sound judgment for when to ask for clarification, for team involvement, or to report problems to a supervisor; possess the ability to work meticulously with a high degree of care towards rare and fragile materials for long periods of time; and maintain a clean and orderly production area. Previous experience working in a library, archives, or museum environment is preferred.

Required skills include a general comfort level with computers and experience with MS Office or other word processing and spreadsheet applications. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, scanning equipment and software, and photography technology is a plus.

The position requires a high degree of focus in a technical lab environment, with extended periods of computer/keyboard use while sitting or standing and while wearing cotton gloves; frequent reaching, bending, stooping; and ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds.

The hours for this position are negotiable between 12-16 hours per week and the wage is set at $15 per hour.
