General Description: This is a managerial faculty position responsible for managing the regular operation of the library information services division, including East Texas Research Center (ETRC), Research and Instructional Services (RIS), and Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS). Responsible for collaborating with library staff to provide a vision for services and resources to enhance the university’s academic endeavors. Responsible for providing administrative and operational leadership in areas including strategic planning, assessment, outreach and communications, technology, budgets, and facilities. Responsible for directing the collection development and liaison programs, and coordinating divisional activities with the associate director of Library Technology and the AARC. Responsible for assisting the director in the overall operation of the library. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This is a security-sensitive position. Reports to the director of the library.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Manages the overall operation of the library information services division, including East Texas Research Center (ETRC), Research and Instructional Services (RIS), and Center for Digital Scholarship (CDS).
2. Facilitates assessment and strategic planning activities for information services division programs and services.
3. Provides leadership for library-wide collection development practices, digital and print preservation, digital initiatives and scholarly services.
4. Engages in grant-writing to obtain external funding for program support.
5. Serves as the library copyright information services officer for general questions.
6. Prepares reports for a variety of purposes, including annual collections budget requests and library impact statements concerning new degrees and majors.
7. Advises and assists in policy decisions affecting library services.
8. Participates in the selection and training of divisional staff.
9. Serves on the Administrative Committee and appointed university committees.
10. Assumes responsibility for maintaining library operations in the absence of, and upon the request of, the library director.
11. Fosters an innovative and collegiate atmosphere while promoting and encouraging a work environment recognized for the respect and dignity shown toward faculty and staff.
12. Maintains effective communication within and beyond the department and promotes and sustains effective working relationships.
13. Keeps abreast of transformational changes in academic and research libraries.

Non-Essential Job Functions:

1. Participates in recruitment and retention activities as appropriate.
2. Serves as needed on library and university committees.
3. May be required to work a flexible schedule including weekend or evening duty.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, departmental and university policies and procedures.
2. Substantial knowledge of current trends in scholarly communication including the management, development, creation and preservation of original resources and digital collections.
3. Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheets, databases and word-processing software.

5. Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
6. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

Education:

Master’s degree in library science from an American Library Association-accredited institution is required.
Experience and Training:

Five years of related experience is required. Administrative experience in a college or university library setting is required. Experience with grant writing projects is required. A demonstrated record of leadership and achievement in the library to warrant the rank of Librarian III or higher is required.
