Job Description and Duties
LIBRARIAN ($4,386 – $5,489) – CAPITAL DISTRICT/ SACRAMENTO HISTORY AND RAILROAD SECTOR/ OLD SACRAMENTO STATE HISTORIC PARK
The reporting location for this position is the Big Four Building, 111 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. This position will work under the direction of the Archivist I and is supervised by the California State Park Museum Director.
The Librarian works at the California State Railroad Museum in Old Sacramento and the Statewide Museum Collections Center at McClellan. The work week for this position is Tuesday through Saturday. Occasional weekend and evening hours may be scheduled. The Librarian’s primary duty is the daily operation of the Railroad Museum Library. Those responsibilities include staffing the reference desk, responding to reference requests, and processing reproduction orders. The Librarian catalogues and preserves documentary collections such as books, periodicals, photographs, audiovisual materials, technical drawings, and ephemera. The Librarian prepares inventories and acknowledgements of donations to the Library and monitors the donation process.
The Librarian must be able to apply professional knowledge to practical problems. The Librarian must establish and maintain cooperative relationships with library users, co-workers, supervisors and others contacted during the course of work. Must be able to analyze data and situations accurately and take effective action in a timely fashion; be flexible and responsive to a complex work environment; work under pressure and meet deadlines; speak and write effectively; plan, organize, and prioritize work load.
Equivalent to graduation from a college or university and completion of a graduate degree from an accredited library school is required. Please provide proof of eligibility with application.
