Please include instructions for how to apply.: Working in collaboration with the Archives of American Art’s managing editor, the intern will fact-check articles slated to appear in the Archives of American Art Journal, the peer-reviewed scholarly journal co-published by the Archives and the University of Chicago Press. The fact-checking process involves consulting a wide range of primary and secondary sources to vet all names, dates, quotations, and citations in a manuscript for completeness and accuracy, and correcting errors. If/as desired, the intern will also have the opportunity to assist the managing editor in obtaining publication-quality images and the rights to reproduce them, and in proofreading an issue of the journal. This intern experience will provide the participant with the opportunity to strengthen his or her research and editing skills and learn about various aspects of publishing an academic journal.
A full academic-year commitment is preferred, but a semester-length position will be considered. Hours and schedule are flexible, to be determined in consultation with the journal’s managing editor. The position is part-time and unpaid.
Qualifications:
• Attention to detail and resourcefulness
• Experience working in an archive, library, or museum setting
• Interest in and familiarity with the publishing field
• Interest in and familiarity with American art history
