The Concordia University Library provides students and faculty with access to resources and services necessary for their intellectual advancement in an academic environment and in support of the research and instructional mission of the University. Reporting to the Director of Library Services, the Assistant Librarian/Archivist performs duties that include researching, acquiring, cataloging, digitizing, preserving, and arranging archival materials. This position is also responsible for assisting patrons with locating desired archival and special collections materials. Evening and weekend hours are required. Position is 29 hours/week averaged throughout the year. All activities of this position are to make a contribution to the fulfillment of the mission of the university.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Acquire archival materials by communicating with faculty, staff, and students.
- Organize existing and new archival materials into official collections.
- Write and provide access to fining aids in order to help patrons locate items.
- Register patrons and orient them to Archive Room policies and procedures.
- Photocopy and/or scan materials.
- Convert photographs and other multi-media materials into digital files.
- Assign and enter metadata for digital files.
- Manage records in tangible and electronic environments.
- Oversee the Archive section of the library website, including the Archive’s Library Research Guide.
- Collaborate with the Instruction & Outreach Librarian in order to actively promote the CUI Library Archives.
- Perform a variety of tasks at the circulation desk including troubleshooting some basic library equipment.
- Supervise and train library student workers as needed.
- Work on special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
The preferred candidate will hold a Master’s degree in Library Science or related field; or a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
