Please include instructions for how to apply.: The American Jewish Archives (AJA), a division of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, seeks a positive, service-oriented individual for the position of part-time Processing Archivist. Primary duties include:
• arrangement and description of archival collections
• creation of finding aids
• collection inventory and stack maintenance
• pull and re-file archival materials
• some reference duties including assisting researchers with reference requests
• some work in the AJA online catalog
The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, pay close attention to detail, have ability to work in a team setting as well as independently, be comfortable in the care and handling of library and archival materials.
Qualifications:
Experience in arranging and describing archival collections required. Partial or full completion of Master’s degree in Library Science, with emphasis in archival studies, as well as experience working in an archives required. Knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards preferred. The applicant must be able to handle archival boxes weighing up to 30 pounds and push archival carts. Basic knowledge of American history and American Jewish history preferred.
