Please include instructions for how to apply.: The purpose of this classification is to support the County Archivist in the daily operations of the County Archive Department. Duties and responsibilities include assisting with overseeing the daily operations of the Archives, and assisting with the accessioning, processing, and preservation of county government records, and assisting all agencies of County government in evaluating their records according to federal, state, and local retention schedules. Reports to County Archivist.
Examples of Duties

Assist patrons over the phone, by email, or in person.
Assist in daily operations of the department.
Assist with the supervision of graduate assistants, interns, and volunteers.
Assist County Archivist with outreach and consultation for county offices on records management and records preservation matters.
Assist County Archivist with identifying records that require permanent retention because of their legal, evidentiary, and/or historical value and in accordance with federal, state, and local law; assist with the transfer of such records to the Archives.
Assist County Archivist with managing the archives facility, monitoring environmental conditions therein.
Accessioning, processing, and preserving Rutherford County Government records.
Preservation of other documents and bound volumes.
Development of finding aides, indexes, and databases.
Assisting other local historical sites with research and program development.
Assisting the County Archivist with long-range project planning, development, and execution.
Provides clerical support for the assigned department; processes a variety of documentation associated with department operations.
Acts as liaison with other departments/divisions, state/local agencies, professional individuals/groups, the public or other individuals/agencies in matters pertaining to department programs or operations; coordinates communications and conveys information among division/department personnel.
Operates a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data; performs data entry functions by keying data into computer; verifies accuracy of entered data and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, computer mapping, or other programs; performs basic maintenance of computer system and office equipment, such as backing up data or replacing paper, ink, or toner; coordinates service/repair activities as needed.
Maintains file system of department files/records; prepares and sets up files; sorts/organizes documents to be filed; files documents in designated order; retrieves/replaces files; shreds/destroys confidential or obsolete documents.
Conducts research functions as needed.
Completes work at assigned workstation that is determined by the supervisor.
Must work hours as scheduled.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs basic cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining work area.
Provides assistance or backup coverage to other employees or departments as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public History, American History, Library Sciences, or closely related field; a Master’s Degree in Public History, American History, Library Sciences, or a Certification from the Academy of Certified Archivists is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provided the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job
