Searching for an intern to assist the librarian with several projects, as well as day to day activities:
Priority #1
Photo digitization project:
• We are currently undertaking a project to digitize our photo collection (many of which are historical) which contains roughly 10,000 photos
• The intern will scan photos and assign data, organizing them into folders on our shared H drive
• The intern will assist the librarian with uploading photos to our Omeka site, adding metadata and tags
• Our photos are currently housed in a way that’s damaging some of the materials (curling especially) this summer I’d like to undertake some re-housing and re-organization of our physical storage
• There are some continuity errors in our photo archive that has gone live. The intern will assist with fixing these as needed
• The intern will assist with selecting some of the archival materials that might be good candidates for digitization
Priority # 2
Archival finding aid project:
• We are also undertaking a project to make our archival documents more organized and accessible to both employees and the public
• The intern will create basic finding aids for our historic archival documents (which are already inventoried and arranged into collections) which will eventually be uploaded to our OPAC for employee and public viewing
o The project has already begun and there are guidelines from the previous intern laid out, so the new intern would be able to follow these
Priority # 3
Historical Reports
• I’d like to begin prioritizing historical reports for digitization. The intern will help with selection of the most fragile items and help with research into potential document digitization programs
The intern will also assist with various day to day library needs, including but not limited to:
• Shelving materials in Library of Congress call number order
• Assisting with daily reference requests/use our OPAC
• Assisting with the library’s Tumblr/Instagram pages
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• A basic familiarity with Library of Congress classification
• Knowledge of how to use library cataloging software and perform searches
• Knowledge of how to scan photos and upload them to a content management site
• Some archival experience and/or a completed class on archival practice/theory, is preferred
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
• Completed Bachelor’s degree
• Currently enrolled in a Library and Information Science Master’s program
Stipend: $18-20 and hour
