Consolidated Carondelet Archives, St. Louis, Missouri

Position: Reference Assistant/Electronic Management Archivist
Begins August 1, 2018

Consolidated Carondelet Archives consists of collections belonging to St. Louis, Missouri, Albany, NY, Los Angeles, CA, and Hawaii provinces/vice-province, as well as a small Congregation Archive. Each of these collections contains several major record groups: personal papers reflecting the lives of the sisters, administration documents, and ministry documents (education, health care, social services). The collections are primarily paper-based, but also include paintings, art objects and audiovisual/electronic formats.

Position Overview: The Consolidated Carondelet Archives invites applications for a reference assistant/electronic management archivist. This is a full-time position with benefits. The position reports to the Director of the Consolidated Carondelet Archives.

Position Description (includes but is not limited to):
• Works with the Director of the Consolidated Carondelet Archive to set and implement policies/procedures governing the management of records in both print and digital format.
• Leads in the preparation of records retention schedules and manages methods of disseminating information about retention schedules
• Coordinates and manages the acquisition, processing and preservation of print, digitized and born-digital materials including photographs, recordings and film
• Develops procedures for migration, description and management of digital archives
• Collaborates with IT department to identify and engage the resources available to perform migration from current and obsolete media formats
• Designs user-focused repository policies/procedures to support access, use, discovery and preservation for researchers and others, and assists users in locating and retrieving materials.
• Responds in a timely manner to reference requests, monitors the research room and provides assistance during research visits; undertakes archival projects and data entry, prepares finding aids and other resources to provide access to collections

Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in Archives or Information Science preferred; certification by Academy of Certified Archivists preferred
• Minimum of three years’ experience in any combination of the following: repository management, digital reformatting for preservation and access, digital collection development
• Knowledge of archival theory and practice including appraisal, arrangement, description and preservation of archival records in all formats
• Knowledge of archival metadata and metadata management
• Strong communication, organizational, problem solving and planning skills
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Physical ability to lift and move materials
• Computer skills and demonstrated ability to utilize technological tools
• Demonstrated ability to manage time and complete tasks in a timely manner
• Customer friendly attitude
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of relevant religious history and vowed religious life preferred
• Passion for ministry and appreciation and understanding of CSJ mission, charism and heritage
