Please include instructions for how to apply.: Located in the heart of Hill Country in Fredericksburg, Texas, the National Museum of the Pacific War is a six-acre complex that provides an immersive experience in Pacific War history. Within the George H.W. Bush Gallery at the museum, the Nimitz Education and Research Center (NERC) cares for a diverse body of primary and secondary sources that document many aspects of the Pacific Theater of World War II. Highlights include over 4,000 original oral histories, tens of thousands of photographs, a reference and rare book library, and a quickly expanding number of archival collections.

The National Museum of the Pacific War is pleased to announce a paid digitization internship at the NERC for summer 2018. The selected intern will digitize material from the archives for inclusion in the museum’s online repository and for possible use in future exhibits. Under supervision of the Archivist/Librarian, the Digitization Intern’s primary responsibilities include:

Digitizing photographs and documents using flatbed scanners. Entering metadata into an Excel spreadsheet. Editing and performing quality control on digital images. Where needed, perform research into photo copyright status.

Qualifications:

Current enrollment in or recent graduation from a university at a
graduate level in library science, archival studies or history. Must be able to commit to 15-25 hours per week for ten weeks. Familiarity with archival and digitization best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge or interest in the World War II era. Experience using a flatbed scanner, Photoshop or other image editing software. Knowledge of copyright laws with relation to digitization for external access.

Compensation:

$10 – $15/hr. and possible temporary housing or fuel reimbursement.
