The Public History Graduate Intern will work during the fall semester with a flexible mid-August start date and a flexible end date in mid-December. Interns may select from a variety of projects that emphasize their interests, strengths, and professional goals. The intern will work closely with the college archivist and curator on a range of short- and long-term projects. The intern will gain experience with the day-to-day management of a campus archive and campus museum, including aiding in research requests, managing the reading room, as well as assisting with programs and/or activities such as tours and special events. The intern will also help oversee a team of undergraduate student workers. The selected intern will focus on a main project throughout the semester which supports institutional needs and the intern’s academic and/or professional goals. Past graduate internship projects have focused on processing a congressional collection, aiding in preservation and digitization initiatives, and collaborating to create temporary campus exhibits.
COMPENSATION
The position includes a generous stipend as well as free on-campus housing. The internship position also supports professional development opportunities including regional site visits, local conference attendance as available, and a range of educational, musical, and athletic offerings available on a liberal arts campus.
ELIGIBILITY
Current, graduate or recently graduated students from MA or MLIS programs in history, public history, archival studies, historical administration, art history, library sciences, and related disciplines are eligible to apply. Students interested in a career in archives, records management, public history, and museums are especially encouraged.
