Please include instructions for how to apply.: The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), a leading Jewish humanitarian assistance organization established in 1914, seeks a graduate intern to work with their audio-visual collections in Spring 2019.

JDC’s archival video collection contain over 2,500 items, which range from digital transfers of films depicting JDC activities from the 1920’s through 1970’s, to more contemporary videos of JDC’s humanitarian work in Eastern Europe, Israel, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
The intern will work at JDC’s New York headquarters in midtown Manhattan and at the off-site climate-controlled facility in Long Island City where the video collection is stored.
Responsibilities include:
• View archival videos in multiple analog formats with particular attention to identifying content that warrants digital transfer
• Create low res digital files on DVDs from analog tapes of various formats
• Provide or enhance descriptive information for videos
• Create new online records in Archives database for newly digitized films and videos and analog holdings
• Create metadata and labels for previously uncatalogued video assets
• Conduct online research where needed to identify contextual references, such as contemporary events, geographic locations, and organizations.
Qualifications:
• Clear and effective communication skills
• Familiarity with database procedures is recommended
• Acquaintance with older video formats is helpful
• Experience with processing of archival audio-visual materials is preferred, but not necessary
