Please include instructions for how to apply.: The successful candidate will develop and teach courses on metadata and metadata transformation; the design, building, maintenance and evaluation of digital repositories; and the curation and publishing of linked open data and other semantically rich formats. The candidate will design and implement new courses and revise old courses in these areas to complement existing strengths in data curation and library and archival science. The candidate must also be comfortable teaching courses with significant engaged learning components, e.g., applied practice and engagement with community, public sector, and academic partners. The candidate must also be able to teach courses in the larger technical curriculum at UMSI, which required that they have advanced knowledge of Python programming. We are particularly interested in teaching and professional practice experience in two or more of the following areas:

Metadata manipulation and transformation: knowledge and skill related to the creation, management, crosswalking, and bulk processing of library, archive, museum and data repository metadata collections. such as those who have worked within information technology to increase citizen participation; Includes work with linked data, JSON, XML, XSLT
Library and archives data content and data structure standards: standards development and their application to a diverse set of cultural and scientific materials
Data sharing and/or online publication of digital assets: working with systems to publish datasets or multi-media content online; design of APIs for digital archives; design of xslt stylesheets and other methods for publishing text.
System building, adoption, implementation, and management: Ability to teach about commercial and open source systems for managing digital collections throughout their lifecycles. Familiarity with Github and application set up in repositories and for the classroom
Digitization and digital preservation: Experience with and ability to teach digitization workflows, strategies, and best practices, particularly in libraries, archives and museums. Experience with digital preservation and ability to teach technical aspects of preservation best practices.

Job Expectations and Responsibilities:
Job duties include teaching, research, and service. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Conducting professional research resulting in: (a) publications in peer reviewed journals, conference proceedings and other venues, (b) standards development, code, or (c) other scholarly or professional products
Teaching the equivalent of four residential courses per year across UMSI’s academic programs
Mentoring students for independent studies, internships and/or class projects, and participation on masters thesis committees
Seeking outside funding to support their professional research or innovative practice projects, or instructional and professional initiatives
Developing and maintaining professional networks to facilitate engaged student learning (e.g., class projects, internships, guest speakers) for UMSI students
Providing service to the school, University, and the broader academic and professional community by way of committee work and leadership, journal editing, and other various opportunities

Libraries and archives have been a traditional yet innovative area of the school since its inception. Over the course of the past 20 years, UMSI developed strong curricula in digital libraries and archives as well as data curation.

The School is home to vibrant research and teaching programs, with 60 FTE professors, and over 1,400 students. We offer five degrees: a Ph.D., a Master of Science in Information, a Master of Health Informatics, a Bachelor of Science in Information, and an online Master of Applied Data Science.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in an area such as information, library or archival science, or a related discipline
Outstanding contributions to professional engagement and practice; at the Associate level leadership in professional engagement and practice
Scholarly or professional products or activities that have impact in digital libraries, archives and/or curation
A strong interest in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
A strong commitment to interdisciplinary professional research and diversity

Desired Qualifications
Experience teaching, including innovative lecturing and pedagogy
