The internship is open to students who have been accepted for enrollment or who are enrolled at least half-time in an accredited high school, college, professional, technical, vocational, or trade school pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate. This position translates to a civil servant position upon completion of requirements.

The student will be responsible for providing support for archival activities by assisting in collecting, appraising, archiving, and preserving historical materials into Special Collections to ensure institutional history is maintained within archives.

Duties include:

• Provide support for archival activities by assisting in collecting, appraising, arranging, accessioning, inventorying, preserving, and archiving historical materials in all formats.
• Digitize records from a variety of media types using scanners, digital capture equipment, and related software.
• Identify and highlight collection material to prioritize for equitable representation of diverse communities and cultures.
• Assist specialists in providing reference and research services for the USDA History Collection and over 400 other individual manuscript collections on the history of USDA and USDA’s impact on international agriculture and agricultural history.
• Assist senior archivists with the preservation of archival holdings requiring conservation and preservation services by outside vendors.
