The Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to hire two Religious News Service Project Archivists for a limited term of 27 months. The two RNS Project Archivists will work as a team to appraise, rehouse, digitize, and describe the Religious News Service photograph collection of approximately 60,000 photo files. A minimum of 22,500 images will be selected for digitization during the project term. Throughout the grant period, the RNS Project Archivists will also contribute to PHS communications and outreach to share about the collection and the project’s progress.
Compensation for this position is $20 per hour at 35 hours a week, plus benefits.
Skills, experience and competencies:
At least one year of experience scanning historical documents and photographs and creating metadata in a library or archives setting.
Demonstrated ability to focus on detail and commitment to producing accurate finished products.
Strong organizational and decision-making skills, including the ability to multi-task, and reprioritize when necessary.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Able to use current technology and equipment.
Demonstrated commitment to value differences and the benefits to be derived from working with a broad range of people.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Fluent in English.
Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with metadata schemas used for digital collections, such as Dublin Core or MODS and Library of Congress subject headings.
Experience with photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
Experience with spreadsheets.
Education Level:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in History
