WAREHOUSE AND SHIPPING MANAGER
The Warehouse Assistant is a key position at George Blood, responsible for assisting the Registrar and other Project Managers in daily tasks, such as checking in and evaluating client materials, packing and shipping media, and overseeing warehouse and vault maintenance. The Warehouse Assistant will be responsible for handling, packing, and receiving materials to and from clients, some of which is fragile, and all of which is one-of-a-kind cultural heritage material. Daily tasks include routine cleaning, trash removal, stacking and wrapping pallets, loading and unloading trucks, and managing supply inventory.

Packing and Shipping (40%)

Packing and shipping hard drives and original media for delivery or pickup according to schedule (pack, wrap, label, and ship)
Logging incoming packages; distributing throughout the building
Maintaining records of incoming and outgoing shipments; Maintain accurate shipment statuses in the database
Loading and unloading freight shipments (1-2 per week); wrapping pallets for outgoing shipments
Checking in and out original media (30%)

Inspect condition of original audiovisual media upon arrival
Ensure all media is returned to the client
Update database with condition notes
Maintain original containers and housing for return if necessary
Courier Trips (20%)

Driving vehicles (van, box truck) to NYC, DC, and Boston
Ensure the safety of client media during transit and delivery
Assist with itinerary planning
Maintaining warehouse organization (10%)

Keep warehouse space clean and tidy
Take trash and cardboard to dumpster as needed;
Maintain inventory of materials in space; shift materials within the vault and warehouse as needed; operate pallet jacks, both manual and powered (throughout the day)
Skills and Experience Required:

Experience in a cultural heritage organization (library, archive, museum, or similar)
Effective organizational and spatial reasoning skills; enjoys putting materials in order
Ability to work independently and follow instructions; fast learner
Highly organized with sharp attention to detail
Ability to prioritize tasks and finish tasks to their conclusion
Valid PA driver’s license with a clean driving record
Excellent communication and team-driven attitude
Physical Skills:

Ability to drive vehicles up to a 26’ truck into Eastern Seaboard cities (NYC, DC, Boston)
Lifting objects in excess of 50 pounds and moving objects 150 pounds and up using dollies and jacks.
Ability to be active and on your feet for up to 8 hours
Experience and ability to lift and handle media objects of various shapes and sizes
Ability to rapidly change between tasks
Knowledge of how to pack boxes, stack pallets, use a pallet jack, and other general warehouse skills
Preferred:

Experience with UPS, FedEx, and other shippers
Comfortable with spreadsheets and manifests
Experience with FileMaker Pro or other cultural heritage database systems
Comfortable in Mac computing environment
Knowledge of legacy audio-visual formats
Previous experience and knowledge of handling and packing fine art
Experience with international shipping and/or hazmat requirements
Forklift experience
