The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a cataloger in the published information section of Archives and Records Services. Duties of this position include performing initial processing of acquisitions; performing copy cataloging by current standards for a variety of items, including but not limited to monographs, maps, broadsides, sheet music, subject files, and serials; maintaining and continuously improving the overall quality of records in the library catalog; maintaining stacks and shift collections as necessary; participating in the planning and execution of section and division-wide projects, especially those related to cataloging; attending ILS system update training and reporting any problems with the ILS to the system administrator; performing conservation work as needed and participating in special projects and other duties as assigned.

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 2-4 years of experience. Hiring agency preferred qualifications The minimum qualifications for this role are a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of related experience. Preferred education and experience include a Master’s Degree in library and information science from an accredited four-year college or university and two years of experience cataloging in archives, library, or university, or a Bachelor’s Degree in library science or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university and four years of experience cataloging in archives, library, or university.

The ideal candidate should possess an understanding and experience with MARC 21 format for bibliographic data, demonstrated cataloging experience, knowledge of DACS, excellent time management skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
