The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is seeking a part-time contract employee to assist the Archives and Records Services Division in implementing the arrangement, description, cataloging, and preservation of archival collections comprising personal and organizational papers pertaining to religious history in Mississippi.
The position will be compensated at $15.00 per hour, up to 29 hours per week. The position is time-limited for up to five (5) years. Work hours are negotiable between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Examples of work include, but are not limited to, the following:
Identify MDAH collections with significant religious history
Process or reprocess these collections
Perform conservation and preservation work on fragile materials
Arrange disorganized materials into relevant groups
Update relevant catalog records; research and write finding aids
Prepare items for reformatting and/or digitization
Create metadata on an item level and perform data entry
Minimum education and experience requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous archives or library experience preferred
Preferred education and experience requirements:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in archives, library science, history, or a related field, or a student seeking a degree in one of these fields. Previous experience with archival processing, arrangement, and description.
