Hampden-Sydney College has an immediate opening for an Archival and Digital Projects Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Library, the Archival and Digital Projects Librarian is responsible for ensuring the preservation of and access to, the permanent records of Hampden-Sydney College in all formats, and providing professional leadership and expertise in the management of the College’s paper and electronic records. The Archival and Digital Projects Librarian provides strategic direction for the archives and records management program at Hampden-Sydney College, including implementing a records management policy, retention schedules, finding aids, staff training, and workflow. This position also plays a critical role in promoting an understanding of the College’s history through outreach and instruction, and online and physical exhibitions. Supports student and faculty research projects, including digital scholarship and oral history projects, assists researchers in use of library collections, and provides reference services for internal and external patrons. This is a full-time, twelve-month appointment with special faculty status.
Qualifications: M.A. or M.L.I.S. in Archives, Library Science, Museum Studies, or related field with formal training in archives management and preservation or commensurate experience. Experience with providing public, research, and outreach services for archival and special collections, preferably in an academic setting. Experience and training in records management. Experience with library and archival metadata standards (EAD, DACS, MARC, Dublin Core, LCSH, etc.) Proficiency with Omeka, ArchivesSpace or other archival display and information management software. Knowledge of, and aptitude for learning, emerging technologies in libraries and archives and how they impact the needs and expectations of users. Ability to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues and project stakeholders.
