This posting is for the exam, which is the first step in being hired as an archivist for the State of California. After successfully passing the examination with the requisite score, candidates are put on an eligible list for one year. Typical Archivist I responsibilities:
Accessioning and processing historical records and artifacts, including appraising documents for historical significance.
Providing reference services and answering research inquiries from patrons.
Compiling finding aids and guides to archival material.
Creating metadata for born-digital and digitized records.
Copying and digitizing records as needed.
Conducting tours.
Writing reports and compiling assignment statistics.
Keeping abreast of current archival practices by reading professional literature and attending workshops and conferences.
Other duties as assigned.
