The National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) is seeking a Scanning Manager to oversee the work of two Scanning Technicians to complete scanning of historical documents for our National Indian Boarding School Digital Archive (NIBSDA). Reporting to the Director of Digital Archives, this position will lead scanning activities of historical documents at Swarthmore and Haverford Colleges in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Scanning Manager will work an 8-hour workday during regular business hours. The work will take place on-site at the colleges in March (full 4 week period).
● Coordinate and oversee all aspects of the field-team digitization process, scanning, tracking, quality control, and metadata creation workflows, activities, and logistics.
● Supervise and train two Scanning Technicians in NABS-established digitization procedures and workflows.
● Work closely with the Director of Digital Archives in managing the criteria and process of digitization priorities.
● Operate, configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot equipment, hardware, and software used in project scanning activities.
● Makes recommendations for equipment and software needed onsite.
● Compile reports and statistics for analysis by the Director of Digital Archives.
● Review all scanning works produced as well as cataloging and metadata documentation for quality control using Microsoft Excel for an anticipated 20,000 pages of boarding school records.
● Create a reference resource guide relevant to the project scope.
● Follow standards for the proper care and handling of physical archival material.
● Provide basic data entry in Microsoft Excel to ensure that original order and fonts are retained in the digitization process
● Follow storage procedures to backup digital content.
● The Scanning Manager will be provided training on the implementation of institutional standards, and best practices of image scanning and describing archival collections held in the NIBSDA.
