The Dayton Metro Library is seeking an independent contractor to serve temporarily as a Metadata Assistant. This position is being funded by an LTSA Metadata Mini-Grant. The Metadata Assistant will digitize portions of the Edward B. Taylor Collection of commercial photography, which documents the lives of African-Americans in Dayton, Ohio. The Metadata Assistant is a part-time contract position with flexible hours and schedule based on the availability and needs of the selected candidate, with a contract duration of 8 weeks. Under the supervision of the Special Collections Manager, the Metadata Assistant will work in our digital asset management system (DAMS) to organize digital assets and code metadata for searchability.
Duties:
• Creates metadata in the CONTENTdm digital asset management platform
• Performs additional digital asset management duties including (but not limited to) quality control, electronic file organization, and project workflow tracking.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in history or related field
• Reliable transportation
Additional Desired Qualifications:
• Current or recent graduate student in Library and Information Science, History, or related field with a concentration or strong focus on archives.
• Knowledge of (or desire to learn) about the history of Dayton, Ohio
• Experience creating Dublin Core metadata in CONTENTdm or similar DAMS.
Contract details:
• 10-20 hours of work per week for the duration of the 8-week contract
• Flexible scheduling
• Position will work in the Special Collections department at the Main Library in downtown Dayton
• $2,230 stipend paid at the conclusion of the contract
• Selected candidate will be required to complete independent contractor agreement, PEDAKN form, and W-9
• Contract start date is flexible; but the project must be completed by March 29, 2024.
