University of Kentucky Libraries is vital to fulfilling the goals of enhancing and expanding the university’s research enterprise and is seeking a lecturer to expand access to the Special Collections Research Center’s unique collections, with an emphasis on modern Kentucky photography. This 1-year position, eligible to be renewed for 2 additional years will report to the Director of Manuscript Collections, and join the SCRC, which works to sustain the Commonwealth’s memory and serves as the essential bridge between the past, present, and future.

The successful candidate will be eligible for an allowance to cover house-hunting expenses (e.g., airline costs, hotels or auto rental agencies), a temporary housing allowance for up to three months, and a generous relocation allowance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
· Lead prioritization, planning, and action for preservation and access of photograph collections
· Appraise, arrange, and process historic photograph collections
· Analyze condition of the collections and create a long-term preservation plan
· Conduct research in related subjects to enhance access and discovery
· Apply national best practices and standards to all aspects of processing
· Collaborate and contribute to the overall success of SCRC and UK Libraries
· Engage with and be aware of developments in relevant fields
· Maintain active research and contribute to the profession
· Engage in appropriate professional development, continuing education, research activities, and service to the University

Required Qualifications:
ALA-accredited graduate degree in Library and Information Science or advanced degree in a comparable field from an accredited institution
Knowledge of foundational archival and preservation principles and best practices
Knowledge of historic and modern photographic processes and formats
Experience processing archival collections according to national and local standards
Experience with archival collection management databases
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written
Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:
Work-related experience in an academic or research archive
Experience processing photographic archival collections, including prints, negatives, and digital photographs
Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and creativity to manage projects both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment.
