As part of the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the North Dakota State Archives promotes and encourages research of North Dakota through access to a broad collection of primary and secondary sources with patron-centered services and outreach. To learn more about the North Dakota State Archives, visit https://www.history.nd.gov/archives/.
The Photo Archives Intern will gain hands-on experience with photograph preservation and archival practices, such as processing, identifying, digitizing, rehousing, and describing historic photographs. This experience would be beneficial to those considering a career in an archive or similar institution.
Anticipated Dates of Internship: Flexible! June through December of 2024, up to 40 hours per week.
Summary of Work
Under the supervision of the Photo Archivist, the Photo Archives Intern will assist in the processing of the Lee Mohr Collection. The processing activities, including numbering, description, preservation, and organization, are necessary to ensure accessibility, intellectual control, and long-term preservation of the collection’s large and valuable photographic record of Mandan, N.D. and the work of Lee Mohr and R. R. Lutz.
Many of the duties and tasks related to processing photograph collections of the State Archives are repetitive and extremely meticulous due to the fragility of the historic photographs and other related historic materials.
On-site training will be provided.
