The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is seeking a processing archivist to serve in the Government Records Section of Archives and Records Services. This individual will work under the guidance of a supervising archivist to manage collections of government records, actively participating in the accession, arrangement, and description of archival collections. Additionally, the candidate will create finding aids, catalog records, and detailed descriptions to ensure efficient retrieval and organization of information. A crucial aspect of the role is effective communication with the public through various channels, including telephone, email, and in-person interactions. The individual should possess the skills necessary to identify and address conservation needs to preserve the integrity of the archival materials. Furthermore, the candidate should be prepared to drive to pick up collections from state agencies on occasion. The role may entail occasional reference duties, with the possibility of working on some Saturday shifts throughout the year.
