Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Include instructions for how to apply.:
Come join a team of staff that are working to digitize, index and digitally curate one of the most mission-critical physical collections at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). You will be on a team working for the National Security Research Center (NSRC) – Digital Collections (DC) Group. The information you digitize and index will have an immediate impact to the Laboratory’s mission.
You will be working in coordination with one of the largest libraries in the Federal Government, the NSRC. The NSRC is LANL’s classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project. The NSRC’s collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, and national security. We are looking for an individual with education and experience in the handling, digitizing, indexing, tracking, storing, and transmitting of electronic and hard copy documentary materials.
As a Library Professional 1 you will digitize different types of materials from the NSRC’s physical collections with a focus on supporting audio-visual digitization in cooperation with the A/V Lead. You will also help to construct metadata/indexing information that will be used to develop a robust catalog and conduct quality control of digitized materials and their metadata. You will occasionally assist librarians to upload digitized materials into the Online Vault or other access repositories, assist archivists to improve organization and tracking of archived materials and provide information to fulfill customer research requests.
This position may be tasked with contributing to the development of workflows for new and existing digitization operations, conducting research for digitization projects, and supporting initiatives to support the needs of WRS-NSRCDC or the NSRC at large. You may be tasked to interact with customers to investigate potential projects, assess materials, and help to develop estimates for project costs and timelines.
A detailed cover letter explaining how the applicant meets the minimum and desired qualifications is required for consideration.
