Under general supervision, the Special Collections Librarian (Librarian II) performs professional librarian duties and functions as a first assistant at the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature at the Chicago Public Library’s Carter G. Woodson Regional Branch as part of the Archives and Special Collections (ASC) Division. To provide CPL users with a dynamic research experience focused on the rich cultural and historical experiences of Black Americans in the region, the Special Collections Librarian will show a dedicated commitment to public service that includes but is not limited to performing reference in an archive setting, coordinating programs, archival description, and donor relations. Candidate has strong organizational skills, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work creatively, collegially, and effectively as part of a team or independently. Special Collections Librarian will also oversee duties related to collections management, digitization, monitoring of facilities for preservation issues, deaccessioning of materials, and community partnerships. Demonstrated proficiency with library and/or archives management systems such as ContentDM and Archives Space. Knowledge of EAD, DACS, MARC and other metadata standards. Familiarity with digital formats and issues related to born-digital content. Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other software. Maintain professional development through participation at local, state, or national level. Perform related duties as required.
