Job Description (if URL to posting not available). Include instructions for how to apply.:
Call all Wisconsin information graduate students! We’re partnering with Wisconsin local history organizations — libraries, archives, museums and other community and local history organizations — to digitize new collections. We’re looking for Wisconsin-based information school graduate students (that’s YOU!) to complete scanning, metadata work, project management tasks, and create workflows and preservation documentation as part of a practicum or service-learning course. Completed projects will be publicly accessible in Recollection Wisconsin (that’s US!). It’s a hands-on opportunity to put theory into practice!

Student participants will 1) be enrolled as a graduate student in either the UW-Madison iSchool or UW-Milwaukee SOIS, 2) receive practicum or independent study credit depending on your program’s requirements, 3) earn a generous stipend and reimbursement for travel expenses, 4) gain training and experience related to digitization best practices, digital preservation, collection development, and metadata, 5) attend a virtual program launch meeting and meet regularly with the Initiative coordinator, 6) receive an orientation to their host site’s organization and collections,
write a few basic digitization and digital preservation workflows for their host site, and 7) write at least one blog post about their experience, to be published on the Recollection Wisconsin website.

Ideal participants will have had at least one course or some experience in digital curation or preservation, archives work, collection development or project management. Some students will likely travel to their Wisconsin host site to complete this project work. We welcome Wisconsin-based students enrolled in either in-person or online programs.

This experience will be available in the Fall 2024 and Spring and Summer 2025 semesters, and we expect to have 2-3 placements each semester.

We’re accepting applications for Fall 2024 through June 14. For more information and application, visit https://recollectionwisconsin.org/rwdi/rwdi-students.
