The Conservation Associate collaborates with members of Digitization and Conservation Services, Rare and Manuscript Collections, the Library, and university departments/units on a variety of projects, including, but not limited to, participation in treatment and housing projects, exhibitions/loans, digitization projects, and departmental outreach and engagement.

Under the supervision of the Head Conservator, the Conservation Associate:
• Conducts conservation treatment and constructs enclosures for library and archives materials in Cornell University Library’s special collections.
• Follows, supports, and makes suggestions to established lab protocols, frequently working independently to perform duties.
• Contributes to Conservation’s role in the exhibitions program, digital projects, and other priority areas.

Success Factors
• Bachelor’s degree
• Solid Conservation Experience: At least one year of experience in a conservation lab setting, meeting the critical requirement for a solid foundation in conservation practices and protocols.
• Effective Internal Communication: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, essential for clear and efficient interaction within the library and among colleagues.
• Collegial and Supportive Environment: Thrive in a collegial and supportive team setting, actively contributing to a collaborative atmosphere where ideas are shared, and assistance is readily available.
• Manual Dexterity and Focus: Possess excellent manual dexterity and the ability to concentrate on detailed work, ensuring precision and quality in conservation tasks.

This is a 5-year term appointment. Reappointment is contingent on funding, performance, and need. The Conservation Associate position is on-site, based at Cornell University’s Olin Library. A start date in Fall 2024 is preferred.
This non-exempt position will be at the D level with an hourly rate of $24.50-$26.83.  The final offer will be dependent on the skills and experience of the selected candidate. Some relocation assistance is available.
