Description
Atlanta History Center seeks two (2) Inventory Assistants to assist with implementing an IMLS Museums for American-funded collections project. These positions will inventory, augment, and improve records and documentation of a total of 4,000 records (2,000 records each). These positions correspond with permanent and project staff, inventories items, and research collection items, and they enter all relevant research and data into the institution’s ReDiscovery Proficio collections management software database. The Inventory Assistants work with project staff to ensure the care and safety of collections and ensure that all collections policies and procedures are observed.

Essential Functions

Inventory, do basic research and update collection records based on research.
Update collections records in ReDiscovery Proficio Collection Management System
Collaborate with the collections team on project and research
Communicate with staff regarding the process and any issues
Manage and track project numbers for digital surrogates and web-ready items
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience

Proficient in museum registration practices and principles
Proficient in researching historic objects and writing descriptive text
Knowledge and experience handling museum artifacts
Experience tracking and managing deadlines
Skills & Competencies

Proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; advanced proficiency in collections management software, preferably ReDiscovery Proficio
Understanding of collections registration and historical research best practices
Understanding of general collections management principles
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
