The Great Basin Institute (GBI) seeks to hire an Archives Technician to join the Cultural Resource Services CRS Program and work cooperatively with the National Park Service’s Lake Mead National Recreation Area’s Cultural Resource Program in support of multiple archives projects. The Archives Technician’s primary responsibilities/duties include, but may not be limited to the following:

*Conduct such work as processing, appraising, arranging, describing, creating metadata using current archival practices (such as more product, less process (MPLP)), and cataloging archival Resource Management records.
*Under the direction of, and in consultation with, staff archivists and the Cultural Resource Program Manager, archives are processed in accordance with current processing plan. Processing plan may be updated in consultation with staff archivists.
*Appraises and arranges digital records and archives according to current park Processing Plans.
*Assists with the transfer of digital archives to the National Archives (NARA) Electronic Records Archives (ERA).
*Assists volunteers with project work reconciling, cataloging, and digitizing historic photographs.
*Assists with research requests.
*Creates section 508 compliant finding aids to publish online. *Increases digital accessibility for researchers and the public. *Works with park public affairs office to publish new Finding Aids online.
*Supporting the museum curator with other duties as assigned such as: monthly environmental monitoring, weekly and monthly housekeeping, and Integrated Pest Management tasks, annual inventory of museum collections, contributing to outreach efforts such as social media posts and behind-the-scenes tours, and a variety of other collections care duties as they arise.
Compensation

Wage: $24.00/hour
Housing stipend of $150 per bi-weekly paycheck
Park housing is not available

This Cultural Resource Services position will be based out of Boulder City, Nevada where the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Headquarters is located. It is a 20-minute drive from the city of Henderson which lies on the outskirts of Las Vegas. Lake Mead National Recreation Area encompasses 1.5 million acres in southern Nevada and northwestern Arizona, in the transition of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts, including mountains, canyons, valleys, and two vast lakes. It hosts 7.5 million visitors per year. From the mouth of the Grand Canyon, the park follows the Arizona-Nevada border along what was formerly 140 miles of the Colorado River. Opportunities for recreation abound.
