Summary/Objective:
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the March Field Air Museum (MFAM) holds responsibility for one of the largest collections of military aircraft and aviation related artifacts on the west coast. The objective of the MFAM Archives is to be a leader in military aviation research regarding subjects pertaining to military aircraft, aviation’s role in human conflict, and A/V records, personal records, and more relating to the topic of military aviation. To aid in this effort, the below interns will assist in making thousands of materials available through our open-access efforts by scanning and adding metadata to various archival materials.

MFAM Digitization Intern:
Digitize historical photographs, documentation and records dating between 1903 to today.
Accessioning digitized materials into Collective Access database, including providing metadata.

MFAM A/V Intern:
Organizing and digitizing Oral History videos and audio in various formats such as VHS, DVD, cassette tape, and more.
Conversion of said materials into digitized MP4 format.
Accessioning digitized materials into Collective Access database, including providing metadata, and housing into Cloud storage.

MFAM Collection Management Intern:
Organizing, labeling, accessioning various military aviation artifacts to obtain a holistic overview of general collection management and database knowledge.

MFAM Aeronautical/Aviation Engineering Intern:
Organizing maintenance/flight manuals, pilot handbooks, parts catalogs, and more.
Accessioning digitized materials into Collective Access database, including providing metadata.

MFAM Architectural/Blueprint Specialist Intern:
Organizing and digitizing base/facility blueprints and aircraft schematics.
Accessioning digitized materials into Collective Access database, including providing metadata.

Eligibility:
Applicants should be within fifty (50) miles of the Riverside area (92518 zip code). Internships are open to students of all nationalities, race, age, disability, or sexual orientation. Individuals from groups underrepresented across the fields of history, artifact conservation, and museum studies are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be:

Students currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master of Arts or Master of Science).

OR

Individuals who have completed a relevant graduate degree (Master of Arts or Master of Science).

Terms:
This internship is an unpaid and in-person opportunity that lasts a minimum of 6 months.
Schedule is flexible with 5-8 hour shifts available during normal operating hours (Tuesday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm).
The opportunity to renew this internship for an extended period of time will be reviewed one month prior to its scheduled conclusion.
